THE CURSE

The novel, " The Curse ", is written by Lee Su Ann. This novel was about a girl , Azreen Saleh, who studied in London , has come back to her hometown , the legendary island of Pulau Langkawi . The reason she comes back is because her older sister , Madhuri , has died. After her return , all she hear is just rumour that Puan Normala spread. Nobody knows the truth of Madhuri's death. She feels uneasy about Madhuri's death.

The character that i like the most is the protagonist, Azreen Saleh. Azreen is a determine person , she never give up no matter what happened. When she comes back from London , she hear rumours about her sister's death, but she doesn't care about the rumours. She attempt to know the truth of her sister's death by asking the Old Lady. Besides that , Azreen is also a kind girl, she befriend with the Old Lady. She does not believe the rumours that the villagers say before, like she will eat children and etc. She always goes to her house and spend time with her whenever she has a quarrel with her parent. Azreen is a clever girl. She had been chose for a exchange programme because she were the top student in her school. At that time, she gains a pair of foster parent , that is Datuk Zulkifli and Datin Sharifah. Then , they send her to London, UK , to continue her studies. Besides that, she figures out that it's her own father that killed her sister, after she sees the latex- stained blade.

~MY PLEDGE TO THE MOTHER NATURE~

The smell of the grass is refreshing.
The sound of the calm wind is like a lullaby.
The water in the river is as clear as the crystal.
The butterfly, the ladybug , the dragonfly,
is flying around the beautiful field happily.
The birds are singing a lovely melody on the tree.
The trees are dancing when the wind pass by.
The flowers, especially dandelion,
are flying toward their next destination with the wind together.
The spicy scent of the herbs flower is just wonderful...........




But now..........there is no refreshing scent of the grass anymore.
No sweet scent of flowers, but only the awful smell from the open burning.
No crystal clear water, but only the dirt , garbage and dead fish in the river.
No lovely birds, but instead of the black raven.
No trees that dance when the wind come.
And the earth is not as healthy as before anymore.......


So, here I pledge that :




(1)   I will not throw rubbish into the river , so that the living things in there won't suffer because of my reckless action.


(2)   I will recycle the old news paper to the recycle factory, so that they won't cut down the trees.


(3)   I will not commit an open burning , and so the air won't be polluted.


(4)   I will plant more green plants around my neighborhood.


(5)   I will take the public transportation whenever i am going out.
